CML Advocacy: Learn. Share. Grow.

4 - 6 May 2018, Warsaw, Poland

During the annual CML Horizons Conference on 4 to 6, May 2018 the CML Advocates Network welcomed 117 attendees (among them 41 newcomers) supporting patients and families affected by Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) to Warsaw, Poland. Delegates from around the world (Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America) came to Warsaw to learn from experts both medical and patient advocates on the latest information about CML, share best  practices in patient advocacy in order to grow their organisations in their own countries and give back to their own communities. This year we had introduced the "Poster Presentation Session" that gave our members the opportunity to interact with other CML Patient Organisations and showcase their organisation on a worldwide platform and share their activities and/or best practices.

Our member Amal Hrim gave a heartbreaking moving tribute to our dearly beloved Ferdinand Mwangura and the community and members of the Africa & Middle East region have voted for Bahija Gouimi to act as temporary region steering committee until next elections.

The conference has over the years shown the immense energy and power of the worldwide CML Community: inspirational poster presentations, interactive regional workshop and outstanding and relevant presentations by CML medical and advocate specialists. The meeting doesn't simply give us just medical insight and advocacy expertise, but considerably more - we feel that throughout the years, the group has built up an extraordinary community crossing oceans and borders to improve the life of patients and empower new and existing patient groups and has turned into a remarkable universal family.

CML Horizons is a wholly community-run and multi-sponsored conference, which has evolved from the "New Horizons" conferences 2002-2011. The annual conference is run by the CML Advocates Network, hosted by the non-profit, Swiss-based and patient-driven "Leukemia Patient Advocates Foundation".

CML Advocacy: Learn. Share. Grow.

26-28 May 2017, Frankfurt, Germany

During the annual CML Horizons Conference on 26 to 28 May 2017 the CML Advocates Network welcomed 100 delegates (among them 24 newcomers) supporting patients and families affected by Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) to Frankfurt, Germany. Delegates from around the world (Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America) came to Frankfurt to learn from experts both medical and patient advocates on the latest information about CML, share best practises in patient advocacy in order to grow their organisations in their own countries and give back to their own communities. We also featured a poster board where our members were able to present some of their activities that they have had during the year. In addition to this our members had the opportunity to submit abstracts and feature in our “best Practice session” on a successful activity they had on their own country. Furthermore, at this year's conference a new CML Horizons Steering Committee was elected.

Call for nominations for the CML Horizons Steering Committee

At CML Horizons 2021, the community elected its seventh global "CML Horizons Steering Committee", consisting of CML patient advocates from North America, Middle East and Africa, Western Europe, Latin America, Asia & Pacific and Central and Eastern Europe & West Asia regions.

Our Steering Committee is made up of expert CML Patient Advocates and is intended to serve as a leading team member for the CML community by providing support and help to implement CML Horizons annual meetings, as well as other projects, led by the CML Advocates Network.

The current term CML Steering Committee from North America and Central and Eastern Europe & West Asia is coming to an end at "CML Horizons 2022", and hence we would like to ask the community to nominate candidates for the upcoming elections. If you are from these regions, this is your opportunity to become an active and professional CML Patient Advocate and empower yourself as well as your region. If you feel you can contribute, please submit your nomination.

The CML Steering Committee consists of one elected representative from each of the six major regions:

  1. Asia & Pacific
  2. North America
  3. Latin America
  4. Middle East & Africa
  5. Western Europe
  6. Central and Eastern Europe & West Asia

plus, the three CML Advocates Network founders as permanent committee members.

Deadline for nominations: 10th October 2022

To nominate a candidate for the election of the "CML Steering Committee 2022-2025", we would like to ask your patient organisation to submit the nomination form by 10th October 2022. If you represent that organisation, you may also nominate yourself and send the completed form to the email: elections@cmladvocates.net

The nomination needs to state your motivation and contribution to the committee on behalf of your region, your history and vision as CML advocate, your English language skills, and whether you are willing to commit significant time for teleconferences, meetings and emails to bring the community and conference to the next level.

Every CML Advocates Network member organisation can nominate only one candidate from their region. If you represent that organisation, you may also nominate yourself. A list of CML Advocates Member organisations can be found here: http://www.cmladvocates.net/members
