iCMLf-ESH Meeting in Washington DC: A patient's perspective
[Languages: English | Russian]From 24-26 September 2010, the iCMLf-ESH conference on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) brought together around 400 CML experts from all across the world in Washington DC. Speakers and audience discussed the biological mechanisms of the disease and its treatment, and also about news from clinical trials with 3rd generation therapies.
CML Advocates Network receives "ESO Cancer on Internet Award 2010" at UICC World Cancer Congress
The "CML Advocates Network" has received the "ESO Cancer on Internet Award 2010" at the UICC World Cancer Congress in China on 19 August 2010. The focus of this year's award provided by the European School of Oncology (ESO) is on e-cancer patients. It has the aim to raise awareness of the evolution of the internet and the impact of social media networks in the cancer patient community by recognising organisations and groups that have provided quality-based and easy-to-use communication platforms through the Internet.The prize of 4.000 EUR will be used to extend that social media functionality of the website which is based on free software and is run by volunteers.
8th "New Horizons" 2010: 144 patient advocates from 56 countries met in Vienna, Austria
The 8th annual "International New Horizons Conference for Organizations Representing People with CML or GIST" was held this year in Vösendorf, Austria, from June 18 to 20, 2010. Sponsored by Novartis, the conference provided patient advocate leaders with an opportunity for 3 days of learning, companionship and the chance to share experiences across national boundaries. This year's conference was held on a particularly celebratory note, as it marked the 10th anniversary of imatinib and its revolutionary impact on the treatment of CML and GIST.
European Action Against Rare Cancers
At 24th of June 2009 a new campaign European Action Against Rare Cancers has been launched. The new campaign urges European policy-makers to prioritise better treatment and care for patients with rare cancers within the framework of the new Commission Communication on cancer and other recent policy initiatives such as the Council Recommendation on Rare Diseases. The CML Advocates Network is one of the supporting organisations. The campaign has launched a Call to Action – an international petition appealing to all stakeholders to initiate targeted actions to address the challenges of rare cancers.
ASH 2008: Impressions from a CML patient advocate
Every year, around the day of St Nicholas in December, hematologists from around the world meet at the annual congress of the American Society of Hematology (ASH). It has become the most important event for this profession. This year, around 23.000 experts from more than 100 countries met in December 2008 at San Francisco for the 50th "ASH Annual Conference" to share knowledge about the latest results in research on leukemias. We've also had the chance to join this year, and we'd like to share our subjective impression on progress in CML therapy. An impression from a layman perspective.
