Portugal: Associação Portuguesa contra a Leucemia
Member’s description
It is therefore APCL’s mission to contribute, at a national level, to increase the effectiveness of the treatment of Leukaemia and other related haematological neoplasms.
Our first major goal was to contribute to the promotion of the “bone marrow donor register”, very important for searching for compatible donors who need transplants. We have invested about one million euros, and together with the Portuguese Institute of Blood and Transplantation, today the register of Portuguese bone marrow donors is, in relative terms, the second largest in Europe and the third-largest in the World.
We have also invested in Scientific Research, in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Industry, and in supporting financially deprived hemato-oncological patients and relatives.
Our main goal for this year is to build the first support home for less-well-off hemato-oncological patients and family members.
