globalactivities22 September is a day to raise global awareness about CML: 9/22 represents the genetic change of chromosomes 9 and 22 that is the cause of chronic myeloid leukemia.

Initiated by the patient community in 2008 as “International CML Awareness Day”, September 22 (9/22) has marked World CML Day because of its symbolic significance: the disease is caused by the change of chromosomes 9 and 22 that is the cause of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.

Since 2011, the worldwide community unites to celebrate "World CML Day" on that date. On 22nd September, patients across the globe come together to raise awareness about their needs to the general public, politicians, and medical professionals across the world.

Web 4Advances in treatment and care have transformed CML into a disease where patients, if treated effectively, have the chance to live a normal and long life. However, there are still huge challenges for patients with CML, which also vary from region to region so that not all patients have equal access to best diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and care.

Certainly, every human deserves a decent life. Because of science, access and health-care, CML is not a death sentence but something we can overcome together: Healthcare providers, governments, pharmaceutical companies, relatives and the whole society can make a big difference in patient's lives.

Furthermore, the patient advocacy community knows that supporting family and friends living with the disease is essential and because of this reason, the World CML Day is also focused on strengthing of the CML global voice.
