DATE: 28th – 30th October 2022
LOCATION: Marrakesh, Morocco
CML Advocates Network steering committee is excited to announce that the 20th CML Horizons will be a Hybrid event, with both in-person and online attendance options. As a first for Horizons, we will be taking attendees outside of Europe for the first time, bringing them to Marrakesh, Morocco, the hometown of Bahija Gouimi, our beloved first African and the Middle East regional leader.
In addition to developing our member advocates, the CML Horizons conference addresses topics like - New Treatment Strategy. In this event, we will hear from patients and leading experts about the challenges faced by patients with CML. We will also look at whether TFR is feasible in low- and middle-income countries, and whether or not it is the cure. Advocacy sessions this year will feature interactive topics such as access to treatment and evidence and data. The nature of Learn, Share, Grow is to deal with questions like these, and our conference offers the opportunity to facilitate and support quality education. The conference also provides a unique opportunity for exchange of ideas, interaction, sharing of best practices, establishing alliances and networking across borders, as well as opportunities for you to bring back to your own organization.
We plan to invite top speakers such as Prof. Andreas Hochhaus, Prof. François-Xavier Mahon, Prof. MD Gianantonio Rosti & Prof. Asmaa Quessar from Marrakesh and more speakers are expected to confirm soon.
We very much hope that you will be able to attend the 20th conference whether in person in Marrakesh or virtually from the comfort of your home. We have an exciting program covering both advocacy and CML science.
Our conference will provide you with the knowledge on how to make a difference in the lives of patients, identify opportunities in patient support & advocacy and learn from the experts - both patient advocates and physicians by networking opportunities with CML advocacy leaders around the globe.

20 years of CML patient advocacy for patient access
Access to life-saving therapies is a global responsibility, not a luxury good in countries of the rich. But there are no simple solutions.
It’s more than 20 years since Imatinib revolutionized CML treatment and showed the potential of precision cancer medicine. In this article, CancerWorld journalist Anna Wagstaff asks why, despite the emergence of generics, are so many patients in low- and middle-income countriesstill dying for lack of access today, and what this could mean for efforts to improve global access to cancer care. Pat Garcia-Gonzalez, Martín Rosales de la Rosa, Rod Padua, Jan Geißler and a number of other patient advocates as well as company representatives and other experts have been interviewed by Anna Wagstaff over many months to dig deep on the complexities of generous access programmes, the end of patents and why CML generics didn't solve the access problem, the diversity of healthcare system deficiencies, the power play of collateral damage, and vested interests - and why robust data and infrastructure also in those countries may become so important.
ATTENTION: Caregivers &/or supporters of a patient with CML, AML, ALL, or CLL
Do you have somebody close to you who is diagnosed with leukemia? Be part of a global initiative where your input will help to understand care for the experiences and views of people who care for, or support leukemia patients.
The CML Advocates Network (CMLAN), in partnership with the CLL Advocates Network (CLLAN) and Acute Leukemia Advocates Network (ALAN), are running a worldwide survey to collect information on the ‘carer perspective’ of the care, treatment and support leukemia patients receive, as well as any personal impact the diagnosis has had.
We highly recommend you completing our survey to have your perspective heard by clicking below:
New “Know Your CML” App just launched
"Know your CML" is a new mobile app developed by CML Advocates Network. It offers a range of features to assist patients and caregivers in understanding various aspects of living with CML and provides articles and news related to CML.
By inputting valuable data, patients will be able to follow their response to treatment, find patient organisations near them, provide information relating to the quality of life as well as the availability of treatments in their country as well as reporting side effects. They will also be able to better understand CML through quizzes and other resources to assist them on their journey.
We have prepared a Webinar that launched our breakthrough App, to share with the CML Community. Look at the video by clicking here:

Calling CML patients living in Ukraine
CML Advocates Network stands in solidarity with the CML patients in Ukraine.

CML Advocates Network statement supporting fellow members and patients in Ukraine.
The CML Advocates Network is an active network specifically for leaders of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) patient groups, connecting 128 patient organisations in 93 countries on all continents. It was set-up and is run by CML patients
In the light of recent geopolitical events in Ukraine we fully support our members and patients and families living with CML.
Following the recent COVID-19 pandemic during which care for so many patients living with cancer has undeniably suffered it is unfortunate that the recent series of events has ocurred and will certainly prolong the effects on those living with cancer and with CML in Ukraine.
As a patient-led global organisation it has always been our belief that disease has no borders and we have always working together both within CML and with the wider patient community to advance the voice of those who have been touched by disease and their families in order to highlight its effect on society.
We stand by our fellow members and patients in Ukraine and with wider global community in asking for common sense and diplomacy to prevail so that normal people living their lives can continue as such and in particular those who find themselves living with cancer and in our case CML can access the care and treatment that they fundamentally need.
As CML Advocates Network we stand by our members and their families and the wider medical community affected during these times.
